Maxion Wheels To Add 60 New Employees at Sedalia Plant
Maxion Wheels, the world’s largest wheel manufacturer, on Thursday announced it is recruiting more than 60 new team members for its Sedalia steel wheels operation in response to major new business awarded to the plant.
Scott Woolery, Sedalia Plant Manager for Maxion Wheels, said that “the plant has received significant new business after many years of relatively flat sales. We are entering three new segments of our industry. A military segment, an electric vehicle segment and light trailer or towables segment. And to meet this demand, we are investing in both people and operations here at Maxion. And we are going to add 60 new positions. We have new equipment, including an effort to improve digitalization in the plant. And we're really excited to announce this to the communities we serve,” Woolery told KSIS Thursday morning.
Woolery noted that Maxion Wheels, 3610 West Main, currently employs 225 people at the Sedalia plant, and is hiring for a variety of operational, maintenance and warehouse positions, offering extensive employee benefits including competitive pay, medical/dental/vision, 401K, professional development, gym membership, attendance bonuses, as well as incentives, and team building and well-being activities. Maxion has been operating with two shifts during a lengthy period of flat sales, but with this new growth opportunity will be expanding to three very soon, Woolery noted.
Maxion Wheels established the light vehicle steel wheels plant in Sedalia, Missouri in 1978. Today, it employs more than 225 employees responsible for building almost four million wheels a year for a variety of customers including Ford, General Motors and Stellantis.
In addition to being one of the largest and highly respected businesses in Sedalia, the plant embraces its long cultural and community-focused history, including the formation of a Diversity & Inclusion committee in 2021.
It also sponsors Team Scream, a First Robotics team from Smith-Cotton High School, holds a yearly Salvation Army holiday toy drive, and hires interns from local high schools and colleges to give real-life experience to students. This summer, nine interns were hired.
