McCarthy Arrested in Connection to the Killing of a Clinton Police Officer
Law enforcement officials say the suspect in the shooting death of a Clinton Police officer was arrested Tuesday evening.
Reports indicate the suspect, 39-year Ian McCarthy, was found walking down the middle of the road on U Highway, near Highway 7 in Clinton, around 6:15 p.m. Another report said McCarthy was apprehended about a mile south of Bucksaw Marina, located southeast of Clinton.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the identity of McCarthy was confirmed.
Reports indicate that authorities searched a residence in Chilhowee earlier in the day, with negative results.
McCarthy was taken to an area hospital for the treatment of a gunshot wound that was sustained during the apprehension, before being transferred to Kansas City. He is listed in stable condition, according to media reports.
McCarthy has been charged with 1st Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action, in the death of Clinton Police officer Gary Michael, who was shot during a traffic stop Sunday night around 10:45 for improper vehicle registration.
