Gray Promoted to Head Coach for Team SCREAM
Mindy Gray, assistant coach for the Smith-Cotton High School competitive robotics program, has been promoted to head coach for the 2026-27 school year.
She replaces Michael Wright, who is stepping down at the end of the current school year.
Gray came to the district in 2022 as a Project Lead the Way STEM education teacher at Smith-Cotton Junior High. She moved to Smith-Cotton High the next year in a similar role, when she also joined the competitive robotics program – Team SCREAM and Team SCREAM Jr. – as an assistant coach.
Since 2024, she has led the Digital Design & Technology strand in the Queen City CAPS program at S-C High. Gray was on the coaching staff when Team SCREAM was a member of the winning alliance at the 2024 FIRST Robotics World Championships in Houston, Texas, becoming the first Missouri team to capture a FIRST world championship banner.
“I am incredibly excited to have Mindy Gray step into the role of head coach for Team SCREAM. Since joining our program in 2023, she has been a tremendous asset to our team and has played a key role in building the culture that defines us. Mindy brings the drive, vision, and leadership needed to move this program forward. She understands what makes Team SCREAM special, and I have no doubt that our team will continue to grow and thrive under her leadership,” commented Wright.
