In towns and cities big and small across Missouri, if there's manufacturing, there's at least one employer who's running a second and or a third shift. In many cases, multiple employers I'd expect. So what three major Missouri cities are in the top 50 cities for folks who are working at night?

Naplab recently looked at cities of over 200,000 people to determine which had the highest percentage of people who work the night, or third, shift. Can you guess which American city placed number one on the list?

If you guessed Las Vegas, you'd be right. Sin City topped the list with 16.54 percent of the workforce working at night between 4:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Naplab says, "The city is known for its 24-hour gambling scene, so it’s no surprise that 16.54% of Las Vegas workers work some of their shifts during the night. Between bartenders, casino employees, and hotel crews, Las Vegas has employees working all day, every day."

The number two and number three cities on the list include Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metro area in California, where 16.17  percent of the workforce works at night between 4:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Followed by the Augusta-Richmond County metropolitan area in Georgia and South Carolina where 15.64 percent of the workforce works at night.

So what Missouri cities over 200,000 made the list? Springfield was tops in Missouri where 11.60 percent of the workforce works between 4:00 PM and 5:00 AM which placed 34th on the list. That was followed by Kansas City Missouri and Kansas at number 35 on the list where 11.55 percent of the workforce works between 4:00 PM -5:00 AM. St. Louis including the towns on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River is the third and final big city to make the list coming in at 49. 11.3 percent of their workforce works between 4:00 PM - 5:00 AM.

When I tend to think of night jobs, I tend to think of warehouses, logistics, and manufacturing facilities. When you look at the list of cities that make the list. Lots of rust belt cities are on the list. Also making the list are cities that are centers of automobile manufacturing, of which Kansas City is one.

Yet, naplab points out there are plenty of other night jobs people do including those who work fast food, bakers, waiters, and bartenders. Not to mention first responders like police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and those who are employed by hospitals.

Working nights is tough. It can be rough on your sleep cycle. Rough on your body. Even rough on trying to lead a "normal" life, whatever that is. Regardless of what you do, if you work at night, thanks for what you do.
