Opening ceremony was held Thursday at the Ag Bldg on the Missouri State Fair with special guest speaker Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe.

“In Missouri, we don't just know our neighbors, we help our neighbors,” he said, referring to recent floods and tornadoes across the northern part of the state.

“They teach these kids (in 4-H and FFA) to help their neighbors repair, and that's what agriculture and the programs you'll see celebrated here (at the MSF) represent. They teach them the values and work ethic of what Missouri is all about through agriculture. And that's what this fair has done since 1901,” Kehoe said.

“I think the Fair does a fantastic job of bringing rural and urban together,” he added.

The Lt. Gov. promoted “Buy Missouri” which is featured inside the Ag Building.

This is the 117th Missouri State Fair and it runs through Aug. 18. For more information, visit mostatefair.com.
