A 49-year old Jefferson City woman was arrested in Moniteau County on Tuesday after a K-9 unit alerted to the presence of narcotics during a traffic stop.

The Moniteau County Sheriff's Department indicates that deputies conducted a traffic in California, MO for a stop sign violation.

Deputies made contact with the driver, Michelle Sitton, and reportedly observed her throw something down inside the vehicle. Authorities say Sitton was uncooperative and appeared nervous.

A consent to search was reportedly denied. A K-9 unit was then deployed and conducted a sniff on the exterior portion of the vehicle. The K-9 then gave a positive alert to drugs inside the car. Deputies then found hydrocodone pills.

Sitton was reportedly unable to provide proof that the pills were prescribed to her.

Sitton was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and DWI (drugs). Total bond was set at $25,241.50.
