My goodness, there is a holiday for everything.  But I can get behind this one for sure.  And we all know at least one person who fits this description.  And now they have a day all for themselves!

Happy National Grouch Day!

As per the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a grouch is described as:
  • a person who complains frequently or constantly
  • a habitually irritable or complaining person

This is probably best characterized in the wonderful green puppet that lives in a trash can on Sesame Street.  Yes, I am talking about Oscar The Grouch! And depending on your age, you could include Archie Bunker and the Grinch as a few famous grouches.

These people have their own way of life.  Often grumpy, rude.  Never seem to be happy, unless other people are unhappy.  They give back-handed compliments that are really hidden insults.  And they can be tough to be around.  Perhaps they are misunderstood.  Maybe.

So how can we put a positive spin on this "National" holiday?  Well you can share your insults on social media and use the hashtag #NationalGrouchDay.  But don't be too rude or vulgar, it is all supposed to be for fun.

I think a better choice would be to try and watch a few episodes of a show that many of us have grown up with and it still beloved today.  A show that every child should watch.  Sesame Street.  I mean, Big Bird, Oscar, Elmo, Bert and Ernie.  They haven't aged a day in all these years.  This show is timeless.  And at least for today, lets show Oscar a little extra love. So maybe he won't be so grouchy.  Maybe.
