Dr. Joseph Lucero has joined the staff of Bothwell Regional Health Center as an anesthesiologist. He received his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, Tucson.

Dr. Lucero has served temporary anesthesiology assignments at other healthcare facilities and was an anesthesiologist and acting chief medical officer in Iraq for the U.S. Department of State. He has received teaching awards from the University of Missouri School of Medicine Curriculum Board and the school’s Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.

Certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology and a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Dr. Lucero worked at Bothwell earlier this year in a temporary assignment.

“Dr. Lucero brings with him his previous knowledge of Bothwell and our practices,” said John Dawes, president and chief executive officer of Bothwell Regional Health Center. “We are very happy to have him as a regular member of our medical staff.”

In his role at Bothwell, Dr. Lucero will be involved with anesthesia care, including pre-surgical assessment, delivery of anesthesia during surgery and post-surgical pain control. The anesthesia department also initiates and monitors labor epidurals in Women’s Health Care
