Edgar Donald Lutjen, 68, of Independence, died Friday, August 31, 2012, at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence.  He was born on March 19, 1944, in Benton County, a son of Edgar and Vida (Burns) Lutjen.

On November 22, 1961, in San Jose, California, he was married to Judith Hensen.  This union was blessed with three children:  David, William Donny, and Jennifer.

He attended Spring Branch School.  In 1977, he was baptized at Six Mile Baptist Church in Independence.  He was a union iron worker for O’Mally and Simpson and a member of Local 10.  After his retirement, he enjoyed visiting with his friends.

He is survived by:
one daughter, Jennifer Lutjen Cornwell of Grain Valley;
two sons, William Donny Lutjen of Blue Springs and David Lutjen of Independence;
one sister, Vida Carolyn Cooper and her husband George of Independence;
twelve grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Vida Lutjen, his brother, Terry Wayne Lutjen, and his long-time companion, Dorothy Helton.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012, at Swan Lake Memorial Park, Grain Valley, with Chaplain Ed Golden officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.
