Online Scam Involving Gift Cards Discovered by Sedalia Police

Area residents should be aware of an online scam that adversely affected a Sedalia woman this past week.

Sedalia Police learned of the scam that occurred on Indeed.com on Saturday afternoon from a Sedalia woman who reported that she applied for a “secret shopper” job online and was accepted as an “employee.”

According to a report, she received a check from the “company,” but later discovered it was fraudulent. The “employees” are then instructed to purchase gift cards from local businesses and send them to the “employer.”

By the time the checks were denied at the bank, the gift cards were depleted and contact with the “employer” was lost.
