An Osage Beach man drowned at the Lake of the Ozarks on Tuesday after a canoe he was in flipped over.

According to the MSHP, 24-year-old Somodd R. Kong of Osage Beach was in a 17-foot “Alumacraft” canoe along with 28-year-old Nicholas R. Compton of Lebanon just after 3:30 p.m. at the 18 ½ mile marker of the main channel in Camden County when they both fell overboard.

Both attempted to swim to shore. Compton made it, while Kong did not. Kong's body was later recovered by two members of the MSHP Dive Team on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m. He was pronounced deceased by Camden Medical Examiner Dee Ballard at 2:40 p.m. at the scene. In addition, seven other Troopers were on scene.

The body was transported to Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Osage Beach.

Compton had minor injuries and refused medical attention.
