RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — A participant in a high-level Palestinian meeting on U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's peace efforts says the gathering has ended without a decision.

He says the meeting participants are leaning toward accepting Kerry's initiative, but have appointed a special committee to further consider the measure. The committee is meeting late Thursday, and a decision is expected by Friday.

President Mahmoud Abbas ordered Thursday's meeting after holding talks with Kerry in neighboring Jordan earlier this week.

Kerry is trying to restart talks after a nearly five-year break. The Palestinian response could make or break Kerry's efforts.

The Palestinian official who attended Thursday's meeting spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
