Pettis County Court Cases from Monday, Dec. 16 Law Day Docket

The following cases were taken up during Monday’s (Dec. 16) Law Day docket:

Michael Anderson, 53, Sedalia, pleaded guilty to burglary and stealing in connection with a June 11 break-in on Albright Court.  The defendant admitted to Sedalia Police Detectives that he went into the apartment and stole video games and gaming equipment.  Execution of a 4-year sentence was suspended and the defendant was placed on probation for five years with requirements that he serve 60 days of shock detention, pay restitution to the victim and perform 120 hours of community service.

Rachael Campbell, 33, Sedalia, pleaded guilty to stealing, admitting she stole merchandise from Sally’s Beauty Supply on July 2.  She was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail.

James Cramer, 26, Smithton, pleaded guilty to domestic assault in the second degree and was placed on probation for five years.  On Nov.13, 2012, he grabbed a former girlfriend and struck her in her face in a parking lot on West 16th St.  As a condition of probation, the defendant must have no contact with the victim and perform 120 hours of community service work.

Terry Dunnavant, 49, Sedalia, pleaded guilty to DWI, a charge arising from an Aug. 26 arrest by a Sedalia Police Officer.  The offense was a felony because the defendant was also convicted of DWI in 1994 and 2000.  He was sentenced to serve 150 days in jail.

Gary Gaines, 26, Sedalia, pleaded guilty to driving while revoked.  A Sedalia Police Officer  arrested the defendant Sept. 24 for a vehicle equipment violation on 16th Street and learned that the defendant’s driver’s license was revoked.  The offense was a felony because the defendant has four prior convictions for various offenses.  Execution of a 3-year sentence was suspended and the defendant was placed on probation for five years with a requirement that he serve 84 days of shock detention.

William Haskins, 36, Sedalia, pleaded guilty to separate stealing offenses, one felony and misdemeanor, which occurred earlier this year.  On July 20, he stole and used a Walmart credit card, charging over $1,300 to the account without authorization.  In August, he stole tools from a person for whom he had contracted to repair a foundation.  He was sentenced to serve three years on the felony and 120 days in jail on the misdemeanor.

Bobby Johnson, 34, Sedalia, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance.  A Pettis County Deputy found over two grams of methamphetamine in the defendant’s pocket during a March 15 arrest.  He was sentenced to serve 5 years in prison.

Shannon Purnell, 32, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, pleaded guilty to violating the sex offender registration law.  The defendant must register as a sex offender because he was convicted of sexual assault in Wisconsin.  He failed to report to the Pettis County Sheriff’s Department in June of 2012 to confirm his registration information.  He was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail.

Filipe Tapia, 31, Sedalia, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.  The Sedalia Police Department’s S.T.I.N.G. Unit served a search warrant at the defendant’s home on South Ohio on Aug. 25 and found drug paraphernalia and drug residue in his possession.  He was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail.

Amy Wright, 25, Sedalia, pleaded guilty to burglary, stealing, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of an imitation controlled substance.  On Sept. 8, she entered a room at the Truman Inn without paying for it. When Sedalia Police Officers  arrived, they found drug paraphernalia and fake methamphetamine in her possession.  The defendant was placed on probation for five years on the felony charge and sentenced to serve 30 days in jail on the misdemeanors.

Jessie Yancey, 41, Sedalia, was sentenced to serve one year in jail after his probation was revoked on a felony bad check charge.  He was placed on probation after pleading guilty in 2011.  His probation was revoked because he failed to report to his probation officer and absconded from probation supervision.
