The Pettis County Commission presented a proclamation declaring October 2025 as University of Missouri Extension Month in recognition of the Extension’s ongoing work to improve lives through research-based education, agriculture, youth programs, and community partnerships.

 

Western Commissioner Mark Edwards said, “Agriculture is at the heart of Pettis County, and MU Extension helps keep that heart strong. Their research, education, and outreach ensure our farmers and rural families continue to thrive.”

During the event, the Commission also recognized David Callis and his family for their Durley Farm, which has been designated a Missouri Century Farm, honoring over 100 years of continuous family ownership.

 

“Both the University of Missouri Extension and families like the Callis family reflect the heart of our community,” said Presiding Commissioner Bill Taylor. “They represent a shared commitment to learning, growth, and preserving the traditions that make Pettis County strong.”

 

“Your hard work and dedication remind us that agriculture isn’t just our leading industry but a way of life. Pettis County will always stand behind our farmers,” said Eastern Commissioner Israel Baeza.
