If you had heard or read that Missouri drivers licenses would not be accepted after January 22 for travel on airlines, an extension has been posted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

People in the Show-Me State were scrambling trying to come up with an alternative ID since Missouri driver licenses and nondriver identification cards (IDs) would not be effective after January 22, 2018.

As of January 19, 2018, Missouri driver licenses and IDs are accepted for travel on airlines through October 10, 2018.

As of August 28, 2017, the Department of Revenue began the process of Missouri driver licenses and IDs reaching REAL ID certification through the DHS. Full implementation of the REAL ID certification requirements is expected to take at least 18 months.

During this process the following will take place:

License Offices-Missouri residents should continue to follow the same procedures as they have in the past to obtain their driver licenses or IDs as they become due.

Military Bases and Federal Facilities-Current Missouri driver licenses or IDs will be accepted on military bases and federal facilities through Oct. 10, 2018.

Air Travel-Current Missouri driver licenses or IDs will be accepted for air travel through
Oct. 10, 2018.
