Revisited: Have People Had Enough Of Dill Pickle Flavor?
I know we've covered this kind of thing before, but it seems to be really popular. At least lately it has been a trend, where companies are trying out more extreme flavor combinations to see what'll work with you enough to make you part with your money.
I've tried a lot of different flavors, I'm sure you have, too. Cinnamon & Sugar, Pulled Pork, Roast Chicken Crisps, Flame Grilled Steak Chips, Prawn Cocktail flavor, there was even that Cappuccino one. You get it. It's a lot. It's fun, but it's a lot.
In fact, I've even tried something similar to this before. Gives me a bit of Dejua Vu. Or, you know, Deja Vu. But I've tried several sweet flavors of popcorn from this company, and they've all been delicious so far, so I'm willing to give this one a try. As Grandpa used to say, if at first you don't succeed....
Ignore Mythical Kitchen in the background. Nicole's husband annoyed me. ANYWAY.
And at least this company sounds interesting. According to their website,
We are part of a 3rd generation family-owned company, where our leadership asks, “Why are we here if we aren’t trying to make a difference?”
They don't get into specifics, though, other than trying to be nice to people.
But hey, at least they're trying. Let's get into it.
THE SWEET CHAOS DILL PICKLE FLAVOR.
It does make it clear that they're trying to work with better ingredients and less genetic modification in their product. No artificial colors, real ingredients, that kind of deal.
I admit, I was going in expecting to hate it. I didn't like it last time I tried some dill pickle popcorn. Admittedly that was a different brand, but still. And you might not know this about me, but popcorn is like, one of my main snacks. NJ jokes with me all the time that my personality can be broken up into three categories: Animals, K-Pop, and Popcorn. But I'm not the only one.
So as a fellow kernelhead, I take it maybe a little more seriously than you do. Which is fine, I know you're not judging, Gentlest of Reader. Starting out, the smell was definitely heavy on the dill.
In general, the kernels look nice, they're generally fluffy and not hard at all.
And you can see the little flecks of dill. But the thing is, guys....
I freggin loved this.
I'm sitting here, writing this, proud as hell that I didn't eat the whole bag yesterday.
But also keep in mind as I'm sitting here... I did have a little burp, and it did taste like dill. Full disclosure, you know. So that's the thing, the popcorn isn't just dill, which is where I feel like a lot of flavors have stumbled in the past. This isn't just dill and hope for the best, this is really more like a dill pickle. There's a light aftertaste of vinegar - not as strong as you'd experience with Salt and Vinegar chips, of course. But it gives you just enough to feel like you just had a dill pickle.

In times past, chips have leaned too much into the salt factor when it comes to a dill pickle flavor. But this works! Well, if you like dill pickles, that is.
If you're one of those "bread and butter" or "sweet relish" people..... I can't help you. In general though, this is good, quality popcorn with a nicely present but not overpowering flavor. It's a little pricey (over $3 a bag), but it's great for a novelty snack or maybe something fun to bring to a kid's sleepover, or a house or birthday party.
Oh, and Whoever Decides These Things:
Put the jalapeno and blue cheese flavor out already, I wanna try that. I've seen a few of the savory flavors here in Sedalia but that one is the next one that sounds like something I'd like. TIA.
Picklingly yours,
Behka
