State Fair Community College Roadrunners sophomore guard Derrick Brock, Jr. has accepted an academic scholarship to the University of Louisiana Monroe, a Division I school.

He will major in business management and join the men’s basketball team as a walk-on.

“I am from Leesville, Louisiana, so that is home,” said Brock. “I trust Coach Brown, and I know he’s going to lead me in the right direction. He told me that going to Louisiana Monroe is a great opportunity for me.”

Brock helped lead SFCC to a 19-10 record and a spot in the Region 16 tournament semifinal round in his only season at SFCC. He played in 28 games, started in two and averaged five points per game. He also pulled down 2.3 rebounds and dished out 1.5 assists.

Brock scored a season-high 14 points while helping SFCC defeat Iowa Western Community College. He scored in double figures in four games and was a key contributor off the bench all season.

“We are proud of the fact that Derrick is such a good student and a high character guy,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown.

“He was the first person that I brought here when I got the job at SFCC. He will have a chance to continue his playing career at the Division I level, so that is exciting. He is a good defender on the basketball court but more important to me is the type of person that he is. He is a good leader and a hard worker who brings it every day. I cannot be happier for him.” Brown concluded.
