A one-car accident that occurred in Pettis County Friday evening claimed the life of 53-year-old David A. Butler of Excelsior Springs.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Butler was a seat-belted passenger in a southbound 2013 Dodge Ram driven by 49-year-old Tammie M. Garrett-Butler, also of Excelsior Springs, at 5:47 p.m. when she overcorrected while changing lanes on US 65, north of Violet Road, just north of Sedalia. The vehicle started to skid, then it traveled off the roadway, impacted the ditch, became airborne and came to rest on its top.

Garrett-Butler, who was also wearing a safety device, was reportedly uninjured.

Mr. Butler was taken by PCAD to Bothwell Regional Health Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:27 p.m. by Dr. Wilson.

The Dodge Ram was totaled and towed from the scene by Don's Truck Towing.
