Smith-Cotton High School senior Wyatt Flandermeyer has accepted a scholarship to perform with musical ensembles at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

Flandermeyer, the son of Mary and Chris Flandermeyer, is a four-year letterman in band at S-C. A trombone player, he was named to the West Central Missouri Music Educators Association All-District Honor Band all four years of high school and was selected for the WCMMEA All-District Jazz Band in 2022. He made the Missouri Music Educators Association All-State Band in 2020 and the All-State Honorable Mention Band in 2022.

At the MSHSAA District Solo/Ensemble Festival, Flandermeyer received Outstanding ratings in 2019 and 2021 and an Exemplary rating in 2022; he also was awarded a silver medal at the 2022 MSHSAA State Solo/Ensemble Festival.

S-C Bands Director Max Meigel said, “Wyatt Flandermeyer is an exceptional individual. While his skill and passion for music shine brightly, what has been even more apparent has been his character. We are excited for Wyatt to continue his music education at the college level."

Dr. Anthony Pursell, Director of Bands at the University of Central Missouri, is looking forward to seeing Flandermeyer work with Roger Oyster, the euphonium and trombone instructor at UCM who previously played with “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band.

“Someone like Wyatt with his high level of musicianship really reflects well on our program from the standpoint of what he is able to contribute,” Pursell said. “We are really looking forward to see what he brings to UCM but also what UCM is able to offer him as far as furthering his education.”
