A 28-year-old Sedalia man was arrested on December 15 on charges including kidnapping, robbery, and drug possession. Sedalia Police were called to the 300 block of W. 7th St. in reference to a witnessed kidnapping. Police say witnesses had detained the suspect at the scene and the 10-year-old victim had escaped. The suspect reportedly resisted arrest, and once searched, was found to be in possession of a knife that belonged to the victim, as well as methamphetamine. The suspect, Corey T. Owens, was transported to the Pettis County Jail. The child sustained a minor injury in the struggle but was safely returned to her mother after the incident.


A 46-year-old Warsaw woman was arrested for shoplifting after police responded to Wood's at 701 E. Broadway on December 14 around 7:30 p.m. Police say Stacey Gale Martin was taken to the Pettis County Jail.


On December 14, police responded to an address in the 100 block of S. Stewart Ave. for a report of a sex crime against a child which occurred in 2013. An investigation is underway.


An email bomb threat that was sent to businesses across the country caused disruption to at least two local businesses on December 13. Police were dispatched to Boost Mobile in the 1400 block of S. Limit, and also to Bothwell Regional Health Center, which had gone into lock down after receiving the email. The hospital was searched and nothing out of the ordinary was found. Information was passed on to the FBI.
