A 27-year-old Georgia man was arrested on January 28 in Cooper County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol took Justin D. Mayfield into custody around 5:30 p.m. Mayfield was arrested on charges of delivery of a controlled substance-7 pounds of marijuana, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Cooper County Jail.


Sedalia Police were dispatched around 3:15 a.m. on January 28 to Buckner Ct. on a complaint of the smell of marijuana coming from a vehicle. Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. During the course of the investigation one of the occupants admitted that the marijuana was his. 23-year-old Brett Allen Hammernick was issued a summons for possession of marijuana.


Sedalia Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 600 block of W. 3rd St. on January 27 around 10:30 p.m. 36-year-old Matthew L. Childs was arrested for third degree domestic assault and was transported to the Pettis County Jail.


Police are investigating a structure fire in the 400 block of S. Grand Ave. Officers were dispatched around 5:15 a.m. on January 27 and extinguished the fire. They then insured the house was vacant. During the course of the investigation it was determined that the fire was intentionally started. The property owner was contacted. There are no suspects at this time.


On January 26 Sedalia Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 700 block of E. 10th St. At the scene, Ramon Alejo provided officers with an ID with the name of Ivan Lira. That name was later determined not to be his identity. After Alejo's real name was verified, he was placed under arrest for identity theft.


Officers with the Sedalia Police Department were dispatched to Woods at 701 E. Broadway on January 26 for a report of a subject trying to pass a counterfeit $100 bill. The suspect told police that a person he was familiar with gave him the bill to make change and did not know that it was counterfeit. The store did not want to pursue charges. The bill was collected as evidence and placed into storage.


Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop around 5:20 a.m. on January 26 at W. Broadway Blvd. and S. Warren Ave. The vehicle reportedly had the odor of marijuana coming from it. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia with marijuana residue inside. The driver, 18-year-old Shaun A. Sims, was released from the scene with a summons for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.


A traffic stop was conducted on January 26 around 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of W. 15th St. and S. Grand Ave. The driver allegedly provided her sibling's name due to having an active warrant and an expired driver's license. 28-year-old Ciera Catherine Pierce was arrested on the warrant from the City of Sedalia for failure to appear with the original charge of larceny and identity theft. Pierce was placed on a 24-hour hold, pending state charges.
