Police say a 28-year-old Sedalia resident dropped a syringe and bag of methamphetamine as he was stepping out of a vehicle during a July 12 traffic stop. According to a police report, the vehicle was stopped for disobeying a stop sign, and the driver, Wylliam Ray Deveney, was found to be driving on a suspended license. Deveney was ordered out of the vehicle to be placed under arrest, when he allegedly dropped the drugs and paraphernalia. Deveney was taken to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while revoked.


Sedalia Police were dispatched to Performance Auto on W. Main St. on July 11 in reference to the theft of a motor vehicle. Management reported to police that a known suspect had taken a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. The suspect and vehicle have not been located. State charges are being submitted to the State Prosecutor.


Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of E. 6th St. on July 11 for a report of a domestic disturbance. A man with minor injuries on his face and back told police that he had been assaulted by his uncle. 30-year-old Calvin J. Woodard was arrested and placed on a 24-hour hold at the Pettis County Jail for fourth degree domestic assault.


Sedalia Police were called to Walmart around 5 a.m. on July 9 in reference to a theft. Police say 34-year-old Sasha M. Skaggs was caught stealing about $68 worth of merchandise. Employees had escorted Skaggs to the back and recovered the items prior to the arrival of officers. Skaggs was issued a municipal summons for stealing with a court date of August 22.
