The Pettis County Sheriff's Office says a man was arrested on July 8 for threatening a woman with a machete. Deputies responded to the 4200 block of W. Main for a physical disturbance involving a large knife. Contact was made with the victim, who said that her husband had left prior to the arrival of deputies, and that he had been drinking all day. During an investigation, deputies discovered that the large knife was actually a machete. The suspect then drove past the deputies and was stopped about a block from the scene. Julio Cesar Valencia was taken into custody and placed on a 24-hour hold for second degree domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and DWI.


Two people were arrested following a traffic stop around 7:45 p.m. on July 7. Sedalia Police say the driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Yesenia A. Roman of Kansas City, was arrested for driving while revoked and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. A passenger, 21-year-old Emily M. Goodge of Independence, was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Both suspects were taken to the Pettis County Jail where they were booked and released.


Sedalia Police were called to investigate a report of child abuse on July 7. Upon arrival, the complainant told officers that her 13-year-old son had been sexually abused in the 1100 block of E. 11th St. Detectives are investigating.


A Columbia woman was arrested on July 7 in Sedalia after police responded to a 911 hang up call in the area of E. 3rd St. and S. Washington Ave. When officers arrived, 33-year-old Andrea L. Brown was found sitting by the side of the road. Police say Brown had a City of Sedalia failure to appear warrant for expired plates, and was in possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and stolen debit and credit cards. Brown was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail.


A 25-year-old Sedalia woman was arrested on July 7 when police were called to Walmart to investigate a case of shoplifting. Police say Christina Hope Horn was in possession of over $100 worth of stolen merchandise, which was later recovered. Horn was arrested, and a search reportedly led to the discovery of a prescription pill and methamphetamine in her wallet, which she allegedly attempted to give to her 11-year-old niece. Horn was transported to the Pettis County Jail where she was placed on a 24-hour hold on two charges of possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child, and theft.


Police were called to the Sedalia Walmart on July 6 around 8:35 p.m and took a report of theft. A vehicle was broken into in the parking lot, and approximately $315 worth of items were taken. Police have no suspects at this time.


Two people were arrested on July 6 when police responded to a report of trespassing in the 1600 block of E. 9th St. Police were told that a man and a woman were sleeping in the residence, and were not allowed to be there. 33-year-old David T. Boggs and 29-year-old Jessica D. Gresham were placed under arrest for trespassing. Gresham also had a municipal failure to appear warrant.


Deputies with the Pettis County Sheriff's Office arrested Lorenzelle Lee Jones, Jr. on July 6 around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of US 50 and Crystal Springs Rd. for driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and exceeding the posted speed limit. Jones was taken to the Pettis County Jail.
