Sedalia Park Board Makes Decision on Esports Gaming Computers

The Sedalia Park Board opted for the more expensive option for the new Esports Arena of Memory Lanes Bowling Center during its 20-minute meeting Thursday night.

Board members had the option of spending $92,408 for 24 computer systems for Esports, or a little over $100,584.38 for 27 “Intel Core Ultra 7” systems, that run faster and comes with three more years of warranty. Parks & rec will be buying the new systems from NewEgg.

The new equipment is set to be delivered by mid-September, according to Jeff Lynde, IT/Esports coordinator.

Also at Memory Lanes, Parks & Rec is close to hiring a bowling manager.

Over 30 people applied for the position and that number was pared down to six. Of those six, the interview process conducted by Parks & Rec Director Amy Epple and Assistant Director Courtney Fry has produced two very strong candidates, both of whom live out of state and have a quarter century of experience in the bowling business.

A new bowling manager is expected to be hired by Aug. 1.

Director Epple said that the new baseball team, The Sedalia Steamers, have been great to work with. The Steamers are part of an six-team Diamond Baseball League organization that play at the newly remodeled Liberty Park Stadium

Diamond Baseball is a professional-grade collegiate summer baseball league that plays in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska, created Sept. 16, 2025.

Parks & Rec are gearing up for the Fourth of July, which will include an early morning run called the Firecracker Mile starting at 8 a.m., in Liberty Park (with help from the Sedalia Runners Club), a parade that will take place at 10 a.m., a picnic with enough food for 1,000 people (and free train rides), and fireworks at the Missouri State Fairgrounds at 9:45 p.m.

It should be noted that the City of Sedalia is paying for half of the cost of the fireworks and Sedalia Parks & Rec are paying for the other half.

Parks & Rec will be searching for a replacement for Tanner McKee very soon. It was rumored that he will be leaving Aug. 1 to take a position with Northwest High School. He currently deserves as Parks & Rec’s Recreation supervisor in charge of sports.

Absent from the June 11 meeting was Board Member Megan Simon.

Epple noted that the Sedalia Park Board could use some new members.
