A portion of S. Ohio Avenue in downtown Sedalia was blocked off late Wednesday morning by the Sedalia Police Department and Sedalia Fire Department after an alarm went off at the Hotel Bothwell.

Battalion Chief Michael Hawkins with the Sedalia Fire Department says there was no fire, although firefighters did find smoke, caused by a shorted wire in the motor of a fan. "We responded with two engines and one ladder truck. Our crews did find smoke in the spa area. No fire, just a little bit of smoke and a shorted wire. We were on scene for about thirty minutes or so."

Hawkins says the building was evacuated, but everyone that had been inside was allowed to return after it was determined that the situation was safe. "There was no actual damage to the structure," Hawkins said, "it was actually a pretty good resolution to the situation."

There was no damage to the structure, according to the Sedalia Fire Department, and no one was injured.
