A Sedalia man suffered moderate injuries in a four-vehicle accident that occurred in Lafayette County Sunday evening.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened when a northbound 1998 Chevy Astro, driven by 44-year-old Joaquin Vasquez Gutierrez of Sedalia, struck the rear of a northbound 2006 Dodge Charger, driven by 63-year-old James A. Middleton of Independence, on Highway 13 at Higginsvile Road, at 6:54 p.m. Oct. 29.

The crash caused the Astro to cross the center line and into the path of a southbound 1999 Jeep Cherokee driven by 20-year-old Morgan B. Hightree of Jameson. After striking the Jeep, the Astro traveled off the roadway and was struck by a southbound 2001 Ford Expedition driven by 21-year-old Taylor A. Case of Alma.

Gutierrez suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Centerpoint Hospital by Lexington EMS. Hightree also suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Centerpoint Hospital by Lexington EMS.

All were wearing safety devices, according to the report.

The Expedition had minor damage, while the Astro, Charger and Jeep were totaled.

Lafayette County deputies assisted the three Patrolmen at the scene.
