A Sedalia man was injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Saturday night in Pettis County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 53-year-old Richard R. Whitener of Sedalia was the driver of an eastbound 2003 Chevy Tahoe on Elm Hills Blvd., just east of Highway 65 at 8:18 p.m., when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Whitener suffered moderate injuries and was transported by PCAD to Bothwell Regional Health Center for treatment. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

The Tahoe was totaled and towed by Don's Truck Towing.

Whitener was later arrested at 8:54 p.m. and charged with felony DWI persistent offender, driving while revoked, failure to drive on the right side of the roadway resulting in a crash, and no seat belt.
