The Sedalia-Pettis County United Way will again be sponsoring a Day of Caring event in October. The Day of Caring involves volunteers helping members of the community with one-day projects that they otherwise would not be able to complete on their own.

"We had our first Day of Caring event last year, here in Pettis County," said Staci Harrison with the Sedalia-Pettis County United Way. "Last year we had 155 volunteers complete 16 projects. We helped veterans, we helped disabled persons, we helped the elderly, we helped low income families get one-day projects completed that they would not have been able to do on their own."

This year, the Sedalia Pettis County United Way has set a goal of 200 volunteers and 20 projects.

"We've got business who have brought teams together, we've got teams from Whiteman that have brought teams together, we've got organizations that have brought teams together to come together to help their neighbors," said Harrison.

Those that would like to apply for assistance during the Day of Caring can download an application from the Sedalia Pettis County United Way's website. There is also a form for registration of teams of volunteers. Physical applications can be picked up at the Pettis County Community Partnership.

The deadline for applications is July 8, 2016. The second annual Day of Caring will take place on Saturday, October 22.
