On April 12th, a female reported she had been the victim of a sexual assault in the 100 block of South Prospect Avenue, by a subject who is known to her. After Pettis County Sheriff's deputies investigated the incident, Juan Humberto Guzman, of Sedalia, was arrested for the assault and placed on a 24-hour hold in the Pettis County Jail, pending the filing of formal charges by the prosecutor's office. On April 15th, a warrant was issued for Mr. Guzman and served to him in the jail, charging him with Rape and Sodomy. Mr. Guzman is still being held in the jail on a $100,000.00 bond.

 

On April 15th, deputies arrested Salina Nicole McCollom in the 200 block of Thompson Blvd, for two outstanding warrants.

 

On April 17th, in the area of South Engineer and East 5th Street, Sedalia Police officers responded to a report of an unoccupied garage that was on fire. The Sedalia Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the blaze. The cause of the fire is believed to be intentionally set at this time.

 

Just before 5:00 in the evening on April 17th, officers responded to another fire in the 1200 block of South Murray Avenue. The fire department was also on scene and extinguished the blaze. There was damage to the garage and the outside of the house. After conducting interviews, it was determined there were juvenile suspects and those suspect were taken to the police department and interviewed. A juvenile referrral was made on the kids. There were no injuries reported in either fire and no further details were listed in those reports.

 

Around 8:43 in the evening on April 16th, officers responded to the 600 block of West Cooper Avenue in regards to an assault. The suspect turned out to have a warrant from Pettis County. 32-year old Melvin Leon Ward Jr. was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, with a bond set at $1,500.00, cash or surety.
