Thursday night, an impaired driver was reported travelling eastbound on West Broadway Boulevard in the area near South Grand Avenue. Officers in the area additionally observed the vehicle had no front license plate. It was stopped in the area of South Kentucky Avenue and West Broadway Boulevard. The driver was impaired by a combination of alcohol and drugs. Karl William Derstein, 50, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs). The passenger, Jennie Lee Schwermer, 41, of Sedalia, had a no bond warrant out of Pike County in the state of Illinois on felony charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) from 2022. Schwermer was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in on the warrant, as well as a charge of Fugitive From Justice. Schwermer was placed on a 24-hour hold, and Derstein was booked and released.


 

Thursday evening, Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of East Broadway Boulevard, regarding a case of harassment. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with Jake Jensen, and then gathered information for a documentation report.


 

Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of West 7th Street Wednesday for a report of assault. When Officers arrived, the suspect had left the area. The following night, Officers responded to the 200 block of East 10th Street and arrested the suspect. Samantha Gayle Maley, 37, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of felony Resisting Arrest, and Assault in the 4th Degree. Maley also had two Probation Violation warrants from Henry County on original charges of Driving While Intoxicated (Alcohol), felony Tampering With A Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree, and felony Burglary in the 2nd Degree. Bond on the both warrants was set at a total $20,000 cash or surety.

Thursday night, Officers conducted a warrant check in the 200 block of West 10th Street. While performing the warrant check, a male subject hindered the prosecution of a subject with warrants. Charges are being requested on the male for hindering prosecution. The male was not named in the report.


Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge truck near South Mitchell Road and West 10th Street Wednesday night after it was observed making a turn without its turn signal. The driver was impaired by drugs and arrested. Kyle Eugene Comfort, 56, of Green Ridge, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender*). Comfort was transported to the Pettis County Jail, to be booked and released.


 

Thursday morning, MacKenzie Brown reported a potential scam in the 300 block of East Walnut Street.


 

Wednesday afternoon, Cadence Street came to the lobby of the Police Department to turn over a wallet she had found in her apartment building, in the 200 block of East 2nd Street.


 

Thursday morning, Officers were dispatched to the area of the 1200 block of South Stewart Avenue in reference to drugs that were found on the property. On arrival, Officers collected the drugs and four unused needles. The drugs tested positively as Methamphetamine. Approximately one gram of Methamphetamine and the four needles were collected and entered into evidence to be destroyed.


 

Thursday morning, Officers were called to the Valley View Car Wash, 610 South Limit, to investigate a possible burglary. Police spoke with Stanley E. Deuschle and gathered information for the report.

*According to Casenet 23PT-CR00137-01, Comfort is currently on probation for a previous charge of DWI and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The probation began 2023, and has an assigned length of 2 years.
