The SFCC shooting sports team recently competed in the Clay Target National Championships at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas March 21-26.

The team, coached by Sarah Manuel, consisted of Gage Fergerson, Braiden McEachern, Justin Duenke, Quinn Westermier, Chase Larocque, Lauren Luscomb, Emmi Johnson, and Averi Eckoff.

SFCC competed in men and women’s American Trap, men and women’s American Skeet, men and women’s Sporting Clays, men and women’s Super-Sporting, men and women’s Double American Skeet, and men and women’s Double American Trap.

The American Trap team finished 13th in Division 4 with a combined total of 408. Fergerson led the team with a score of 98. Fergerson finished 14th individually out of 434 participants. The American Skeet team finished 12th with a total of 300.

Fergerson led the team with a score of 88 and tied for 157th out of a total of 801 participants. The Sporting Clays team finished 14th with a combined score of 264. Duenke, Fergerson, and McEachern each scored 60 to tie for 222nd out of 416.

The Super Sporting Clays team finished 9th with a combined total of 318. Fergerson led the team with a score of 77 and placed 151st individually out of 369 participants. The Double American Skeet team finished 9th with a combined total of 296. McEachern led the team with a score of 83 to finish 128th out of 341.

The Double American Trap team finished 8th with a combined score of 353. Fergerson and McEachern both scored 85 to lead the team and finish in a tie for 83rd individually.

“I am very proud of this team,” said Manuel. “They had to come out and compete against thousands of other individuals in a setting they had never seen. We have a lot of work to do but, this gives us a starting point. Our kids showed up to compete and that is all I can ask. We were proud to represent State Fair Community College on a national level.”
