Students in State Fair Community College’s Early Childhood Development program will host the fourth Student Missouri School Teachers Association (SMSTA) Literacy Night for Pettis County preschool-aged children and their families from 5:30-7 p.m., Thursday, May 2, on the sidewalks of the Sedalia campus and in Yeater Learning Center lobby.

The first 100 people will be treated to a meal, a bag of donated goodies and a free book.

The event theme is based on a book series by Laura Numeroff that began with “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” SFCC students will have tables with activities and crafts related to the books for children to do.

Along with the free activities and crafts, service vehicles from the Sedalia Fire and Police Departments and Pettis County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments, the Pettis County Ambulance District and possibly others will be there for children and their families to explore. Service personnel also will take turns reading books to the children in Yeater Center lobby.
