Smith-Cotton High School Assistant Principal Ted Suhr to Return to Teaching

During the closed session of the Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education meeting on Monday night (Feb. 24), the board unanimously approved the requested transfer of Smith-Cotton High School Assistant Principal Ted Suhr to a position as ninth grade art teacher at Smith-Cotton Junior High. Suhr will replace art teacher Jenny Ragland, whose resignation is effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year.

Suhr has been an administrator for the past five years, serving as junior high assistant principal from July 2009 to June 2011 before moving to his current role. Prior to that, he was an art teacher at Sedalia Middle School from August 1996 to June 2009.

Suhr holds bachelor's degrees in Studio Art (1988) and Education (1996) from Concordia College in Seward, Neb., as well as a master’s degree in administration (2002) and an education specialist degree (2013) from William Woods University.

“When I heard that the ninth grade art position had opened up, I felt that this was an opportune time to make a change,” Suhr said. “I have enjoyed being an administrator in the district but I also felt that it was time to re-enter the classroom setting. I miss establishing those positive relationships with kids in the classroom. That can prove to be a bit more difficult when you are in administration. I also missed the creative atmosphere that teaching art provides. I look forward to being back in that setting and continuing to serve in the district.”

The district is accepting applications for the high school assistant principal position.
High School Principal Wade Norton said, “Ted has been a strong member of our administrative team, I appreciate his dedication to the school district and the students of Smith-Cotton. We wish him well.”
