A 21-year old man from Smithton, MO was recently arrested in Moniteau County following an investigation into a burglary.

The Moniteau County Sheriff's Office says that on March 4, deputies took a report of a residential burglary that occurred on Highway T in the southern portion of Moniteau County.

According to the report, someone forcibly entered the home and removed items valued at several thousands of dollars. Authorities began an investigation and then on March 12, deputies were dispatched to assist the Missouri State Highway Patrol with a vehicle stop.

While on scene, deputies reportedly noticed some items in the vehicle that matched the description of items stolen from the Highway T residence.

A suspect, 21-year old Alex Z. Gilbert, of Smithton, was taken into custody for questioning. Gilbert reportedly admitted to breaking into the residence and taking the items.

Some of the stolen items have been recovered and deputies are continuing to investigate the possible location of other missing items.

Gilbert was taken to the Moniteau County Jail for 2nd Degree Burglary/Stealing. Bond was set at $35,000.
