I don't know what I'm doing for Thanksgiving, heck, I might not even do anything.

I have had Thanksgivings before, though.  I've made turkey in a crock pot, I've baked up regular turkey, I've roasted ham, I get it.  It can be a process, and not always a pleasant one.  Well. The eating part is usually good. But the build up can be a nightmare!  So, take some tips from me about how to make your Turkey Day a little easier on yourself.

1.  Go to the grocery store now.

The closer it gets to Thanksgiving, the crazier the grocery store will be.  So make a list this weekend and get the shopping done.  Even if it's not Turkey Day stuff, just do it.

2.  Clean your kitchen.

It'll be easier to keep everything organized if you start off with a clean kitchen.  And this would be a good time to clean out and organize your fridge as well.  I've already done this, but my kitchen in general is a lot cleaner lately.

3.  Delegate.

It's okay to ask for help and delegate responsibilities . . . like making the kids set the table or wash dishes, and making guys peel potatoes while they watch football.  Or, even just asking relatives to bring a side dish, or some plastic cups, or something. Especially if you're the one doing the mains, asking for a little help is totally ok.

4.  Stick to the classics.

You don't need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to dinner. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce should keep everyone happy.   I did try to get fancy one year and make a Champagne Ham with special home made mashed potatoes.  Nobody really noticed. So just stick with the simple stuff.  If you want to try some new wines or an unusual side dish, great.  If you want to add ham or a beef roast to the party, terrific.  But people are expecting the "Greatest Hits".

5.  Order in.

You don't want to be worrying about cooking and washing dishes the night before Thanksgiving.  And you know you're gonna be eating turkey sandwiches, turkey wraps, turkey noodle soup, etc etc for at least a week after this is all said and done. So order a pizza and relax before the big day.  You deserve a treat.

What are some of your tips to make Thanksgiving a little easier?

Thankfully yours,

Behka
