Looking for a last minute weekend getaway this fall? Well tram rides to the top of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis have resumed.  Many of the Arch's associated attractions, like the visitor center and museum have been open, however, now you can go to the top of the Arch too.

Here's what you need to know if you're planning to visit St. Louis and ride the tram to the top of the Arch:

  • Capacity for the tram ride to the top of the Arch is limited due to COVID-19 policies. Advance purchase is suggested. You can do that here.  (This ticket/reservation includes access to the Arch facility and whatever activities you choose to purchase in addition to the tram ride.)
  • Time at the top of the Arch is limited to ten minutes.
  • Even if you don't want to ride to the top of the Arch, and only want to avail yourself of the things you can do for free at the Arch facility, you'll still need a reservation/ticket. You can get that here.
  • All visitors to the Arch facility will be subject to an airport style security checkpoint.
  • Tram cars and windows at the top of the Arch will be assigned by family. Solo visitors will have their own tram and window.
  • The tram ride to the top of the Arch experience takes between 45 minutes to an hour.

If you're interested in the specific COVID-19 safety measures that are in place, you can check them out here. They're similar to a lot of safety measures most places are employing and include physical distancing, reduced capacity and much more frequent cleaning and sanitizing. Unfortunately the documentary film and Ranger-led walking tours of the National Park are not available right now.

While it may be a little late to make the Arch the centerpiece of a Labor Day getaway. It certainly seems like it could be a cool part of long weekend getaway to St. Louis this fall.
