Around 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, Pettis County deputies, along with troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Bomb Squad, served a search warrant at the residence of 37-year-old Cody Lappat in the 2900 block of East 28th, following an investigation into homemade explosive devices being manufactured at the residence.

During a search of the property, items used to manufacture explosive devices were located. Cody Lappat and Paul D. Fontenot, 50, of La Monte, were both taken into custody.

Lappat was charged with unlawful possession, transport, manufacture, repair or sale of illegal weapons, a Class D felony. His bond was set at $50,000.

Fontenot was charged by the Pettis County prosecutor with possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class D misdemeanor. His bond was set at $10,000.
