Authorities have arrested a suspect in a fatal Benton County shooting.

The Benton County Sheriff's Department says at approximately 7:30 Wednesday night (May 15), dispatch received a call from 47-year old Khristy L. Clark, stating that 45-year old Travis C. Henderson was pointing a shotgun at her outside a residence near Ionia.

Upon arrival to the residence, authorities found Clark deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Henderson reportedly fled the scene in a pickup truck that was later recovered in a remote area east of Ionia.

It is believed that Henderson was picked up by an individual and removed from that location. MSHP Swat, along with deputies from Henry and Pettis County and many other troopers and a Helicopter armed with FLIR, canvassed the surrounding area into the early morning hours but did not locate Henderson at the time.

Henderson was later located and taken into custody after a short standoff, according to Benton County Sheriff Eric Knox.

"I am proud to be surrounded by some of the most talented and professional law enforcement wearing badges! Thank you gentlemen for your dedication and sacrifice! Also thank you to dispatch!" he said.
