Verna Ray Owen, 75, of rural Lincoln, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at her home.  She was born on March 31, 1938, on a farm near Warsaw, Missouri, a daughter of Henry and Barbara Esther Ann (Knox) Roberts.

She attended Popular School.  She was married to Gary Lee Owen and this union was blessed with the gift of two sons, Rodney and Brian.

Verna owned two liquor stores and two taverns in Cole Camp, a liquor store in Braymer, raised cattle on the farm and was a member of the Countryside Eagles Lodge #4286 of rural Lincoln.  She enjoyed simple country life, spending time with her grandkids, cooking, gardening, housekeeping, fixing fences, burning tree stumps, and playing shuffleboard with her Eagle friends.

She is survived by: her companion, Billy Robinson of Lincoln; two sons, Rodney Owen of Blue Springs and Brian Owen and his wife Debbie of Lee's Summit; three step-children, Jane Burns and her husband Mitch, Jerry Robinson and his wife Terry, and Lynda Pauley and her husband Bruce; two sisters, Evelyn Wright and Betty Barnes, both of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Ashley Owen, Tristin Owen, Dawson Owen, and Colton Owen; six step-grandchildren, Chris Burns, Jordan Robinson, Matt Burns, Jamie Robinson, Cord Pauley, and Kara Pauley; and four step-great-grandchildren, Emma Burns, Lily Burns, Jude Viets, and Sterling Burns.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Barbara Roberts, three sisters, Goldie Antwiler, Nellie Maham, and Merle Barnes, and two brothers, Ronnie Roberts and Gene Roberts.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Countryside Eagles Lodge #4286, 29354 Highway H, Lincoln.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Benton County Hospice or Benton County Cancer Society in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.
