An Eldon man was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action Monday night, accused of causing the death of a woman who was shot outside an office building on South Burke Street in Versailles on Monday morning.


56-year-old Robert J. Anselmo is a suspect in the shooting death of Johnetta Yeager, who was rushed to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, where she was later pronounced deceased.

According to a probable cause statement, Yeager was found Monday morning outside a USDA office building in Versailles.

Investigators said it appeared as if she was exiting her vehicle to go to work when she was shot.

Versailles Police responded around 7:34 a.m., to the 100 block of South Burke Street, where they found Yeager unconscious with a head wound.

According to a witness who heard the sound of a gunshot, the suspect ran south on Burke Street.

Versailles Police requested the assistance of the Lake of the Ozarks Major Case Squad.

Surveillance footage showed Anselmo’s vehicle at the scene.

Court documents show that Yeager had sought a protection order against Anselmo, her former domestic partner. Yeager was involved in a civil suit against him.

Anselmo was arrested Monday evening in Miller County around 6 p.m., according to Prosecuting Attorney Dustin G. Dunklee, and booked in at the Morgan County Detention Center at 7:52 p.m. Monday night with no bond.
