Sedalia Parks and Recreation announced their Grand Marshal for the “America’s Superheroes” 4th of July Parade hosted in Downtown Sedalia on July 4th at 10 a.m.

This year’s grand marshal is Sedalia’s very own superhero Vivian Meyer! Six-year-old Vivian Meyer was diagnosed with a Stage III Wilms tumor on Nov. 30, 2020, at the age of 5. While Wilms tumors are a common type of childhood cancer, Vivian's cancer cells were a rare kind known to be resistant to treatment.

Vivian completed her cancer treatments, which were part of a study at Children's Mercy Hospital, in December 2021. Vivian's treatment included four surgeries, at least seven hospitalizations, 10 days of radiation, and 14 cycles of aggressive chemotherapy. She showed tremendous courage and bravery during her treatments, earning her the nickname of "Wonder Viv."

She lost her hair and experienced many painful moments, but she never lost her amazing smile and positive outlook. Six months post-treatment, Vivian's scans and lab work show no signs of cancer.

Vivian will be a first grader at Skyline Elementary School and lives in Sedalia with her dad, David Meyer; mother, Sarah Nail; and big sister, Molly Meyer. Viv is full of life and so excited to represent the Superheroes of Sedalia.
