Warrensburg Veterans Home Hosting Virtual Memorial Day Ceremony

For the second year in a row the Missouri Veterans Home Warrensburg will be presenting a virtual Memorial Day program on their Facebook page. And we're all welcome to join them for part or all of their ceremonies.

Throughout the day on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, the Missouri Veterans Home Warrensburg will prost each individual component they would include in a traditional Memorial Day Ceremony the home normally hosts. Numerous individuals and groups spent time creating every component of a Memorial Day Program.

Some of the participants include PB Wilson, lead singer of Dirt Road Addiction singing "In Color". Ashlee Martin from Green Ridge High School singing "America the Beautiful", members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri will lead "The Pledge of Allegiance" and New Score from Smith-Cotton High School will perform our National Anthem.

There will also be posting and retiring of the colors, opening remarks, a keynote speech, a remembrance of Veterans the Missouri Veterans Home has lost over the last year, a presentation from the University of Central Missouri Fighting Battalion including Ryan Lett performing "Amazing Grace" on the bag pipes, and a Three-Volley Salute and Taps by American Legion Post 131 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2513.

Each element of the virtual ceremony will happen at the top and bottom of the hour from 9:00AM - 4:00PM CDT starting with the posting of the colors from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591 and ending with the Day of Honor and Remembrance Virtual Tour.

One last note on Memorial Day. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Memorial Day is a day "to honor military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle." Where Veterans Day (celebrated Thursday, November 11) remembers everyone who has served in the Military.
