Warsaw Man Dies in House Fire

A man died in a house fire in Warsaw around 11 a.m. Sunday.

According to the Division of Fire Safety, a television inside the home on Laird Street (northeast Warsaw, east of Highway 65) accidentally caught fire, and two of the three people inside the home escaped, but the elderly man did not.

Warsaw fire crews say they attempted to find the man, but conditions inside deteriorated rapidly and the search had to be halted.

The fire expanded to include two nearby buildings. Two of the buildings were a total loss, and the third had moderate damage. A total of 62 Firefighters responded and remained on scene for 9 hours. Two structures sustained a total loss, while a third structure had moderate damage.

Fire crews say they later found the man dead inside the back of the home after the fire was extinguished. His name was not released. The fire investigation is being handled by the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office.
