This is the third straight year Whittier has collected books for the summer food program. The Literacy Council is teaming with Open Door, and the books will be distributed free to children who attend the various summer lunch program sites.

In addition to the books gathered by Whittier students, Home State Health, of Chesterfield, delivered several boxes of new books for distribution.

Betty Albrecht of the Literacy Council said, "It was certainly a joint effort and we are always especially proud when kids help other."
