WMMC Foundation Joining #GivingTuesday with First-Ever Matching Gift

The Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) Foundation is joining GivingTuesday, a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on Dec.1.

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement encouraging people to give back on Dec.1, 2020, and throughout the year.

The WMMC Foundation is participating in GivingTuesday as a way to create awareness and raise funds for their most recent project, the remodel of the Emergency Room (ER). This project, called “TogethER: Transforming Emergency Care,” will increase the number of fast-track rooms, which are areas dedicated to treating the less critically ill. It will allow us to enhance the flow, patient care and privacy and reduce the length of stay for our patients in the ER.

Additionally, we will modify two rooms with advanced airflow features that will help contain viruses, such as COVID-19.
The WMMC Foundation has set a goal of $200,000 for this project and hopes to reach their goal by Dec. 1, on the Day of Giving. For the first time ever, the WMMC Foundation has received a matching gift, which will go into effect on the Day of Giving. This matching gift, pledged by Drs. Mark Pluym & Amira Ghazali, will match all donations received on Dec. 1st, dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000.

“The WMMC Foundation has been a cornerstone in fundraising and supporting our hospital mission of providing excellent care to our community,” said Dr. Amira Ghazali. “When we heard about the plan to remodel the ER, we felt inspired to contribute. We hope that by matching donations on the day of giving up to $5,000 dollars, we can help inspire others to give toward this important cause. Our ER and hospital volumes have increased significantly this year as a result of a changing world health climate. An ER remodel means improving the care our hospital gatekeepers can give to our community members during these uncertain times. GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good.
