An Independence woman was injured in a hit-and-run accident that occurred in Johnson County Sunday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 56-year-old Shannon E. Meyer of Independence was the driver of a westbound 2002 Lincoln on Highway 50, west of Route Z in Johnson County at 8:40 p.m., when another vehicle merged into the left lane, forcing the Lincoln off the highway. The driver overcorrected and overturned, coming to rest on its top.

Meyer suffered moderate injuries and was transported by JCAD to Western Missouri Medical Center for treatment. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the report noted.

The Lincoln was totaled. The other driver and vehicle were not identified.

Johnson County deputies assisted the Patrol at the scene.
