Several films fall under the category of cult classics. A film that has acquired a cult following. Cult films are known for their dedicated, passionate fanbase which forms an elaborate subculture, members of which engage in repeated viewings, dialogue-quoting, and audience participation.  In my opinion, Napoleon Dynamite falls into this category.

This 2004 comedy was made with a budget of only $400,000 and went on to earn over $44 million dollars.  It supplied viewers with a long line of catchphrases and treasured scenes. Some critics loved the film; some didn't. I can tell you this.  I laughed a lot at the film, the dance scene near the end of the film is absolutely hilarious, and there were an awful lot of people who were wearing the T-shirts that said "Vote For Pedro"

If you enjoyed the film, and it was popular enough to secure lead actor Jon Heder a spot as host of Saturday Night Live, and co-starred in Blades Of Glory with Will Ferrell, then you can get a chance to meet him and his co-stars Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Gries (Rico).  They will appear at a screening Oct. 23 at Capital Region MU Health Care Amphitheater. The event description promises a "conversation" with the three actors in addition to a viewing of the film.

This film really is worth watching if you have not seen it, and I think you will find it funny.  If you have seen it, you will know why it falls into the category of cult classic.

What questions would you ask of the cast? I would ask Jon if the film has been a blessing or a curse.  Has he suffered from type casting? And did he think the film would ever achieve the cult classic status it has received.
