Emergency personal responded to a structure fire Thursday afternoon, in Sedalia.

Around 1:30, Thursday afternoon (June 23), a Sedalia police officer was flagged down, in reference to a house that was on fire at 1903 South Grand Avenue. The officer arrived at the residence and found it to be on fire and filled with smoke.

The Sedalia Fire Department arrived on scene as well, and entered the house. Inside, the firefighters found 30-year old Matthew Eldenburg. Fire personnel and paramedics from the Pettis County Ambulance District treated Eldenburg and he was taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center.

At approximately 3:00 in the afternoon, Mr. Eldenburg passed away.

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Harrell said his crews battled extreme heat as well as the fire, but no injuries were reported to his crews.

At this time, the Sedalia Police Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshal are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the fire and the cause of death.
