The Missouri Department of Corrections said that Robert Stean, 60, of Sedalia, was pronounced dead at 5:19 a.m. Monday morning at the Algoa Correctional Facility in Jefferson City.

Stean began serving two four-year sentences for possession of a controlled substance from Pettis County and a four-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance out of Franklin County on Aug. 11, 2022.

A cause of death was not announced.

In June of 2022, Pettis County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of 7th Street and South Engineer Avenue.

During the stop, the passenger was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The arrestee was identified as Robert G. Stean Jr., 58, of Sedalia, who also had violated his probation on original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Driving While Intoxicated. Stean was held pending a $7500 cash or surety bond.

And in December of 2021, Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop on a truck at Broadway and Lamine for moving violations and indicators of impaired driving. An investigation determined that the driver was intoxicated by drugs. 57-year-old Robert Gene Stean of Sedalia, was arrested and a search of the vehicle revealed methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was also in possession of forged plates.

Stean was taken to a hospital, then on to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold. Police are requesting charges of forgery, possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated by drugs, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
