State Fair Community College’s 2017 Dental Hygiene students had a 100 percent pass rate on their National Board Dental Hygiene Examinations and Central Regional Dental Testing Service practical skill exams.

The tests assess students’ knowledge of basic biomedical and dental sciences and their ability to apply that knowledge in problem-solving context.

SFCC had 10 students who took the exams. Graduates who pass their exams are eligible to apply for licensure in Missouri.

Caryn Tierney is the program director, and Renee Fiquet is an instructor.

“We are very proud of our students and their hard work,” said Tierney. “We have had other classes in the past when all the students passed their exams, which is a tribute to the quality of our students and program.”

SFCC offers an Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene that requires 92 credit hours on the Sedalia campus. Students acquire hands-on experience in the program’s modern clinic that provides oral health care services to the community.

Under the supervision of experienced staff, students can assess, educate and treat patients with periodontal disease.

The Commission on Dental Accreditation accredits SFCC’s Dental Hygiene program. The program starts in August; application deadline is early March.
